PURPOSE
To outline Clean Environment Policy for work and materials used at
Advent Print Management Pty Ltd (APM).

Controls in place to monitor the Clean Environment procedures of
work outsourced by Advent Print Management.

SCOPE
Advent Print Management is committed to the preservation of the environment and compliance with Environmental legislation.

It is the aim of this Policy that in all our business dealings we act in an environmentally responsible manner. It defines principles and responsibilities for managing environmental issues, and aims to contribute over the long term to Advent by ensuring:

  • Identification and management of environmental risks
  • Pursual of environmentally-friendly opportunities in the print market
  • Continual improvement through its documented objectives and targets to reduce waste and prevent pollution
  • Reducing the consumption of energy and other consumable products such as paper, inks, plastic & cardboard etc used for packaging.
  • Reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

The Policy applies to all services and activities involving environmental issues entered into by or on behalf of Advent in the course of business. Both printing activities and in-house operations (logistics and infrastructure) are subject to and must be conducted in compliance with this policy.

Implementation of this Policy is a process of continuous improvement, and many goals have already been achieved, all areas are continually evaluated for environmental sustainability.

We understand that each of Advent’s suppliers are a part of the environment and the local community.

As part of Advents management of its business, the environment and the local community are to be fully and properly considered in all business transactions.

We expect our suppliers to be efficient in their use of energy, protective of the environment, recycle where possible and safely dispose of all potentially dangerous items.

Advent is committed to protect the environment and ensure that each of its suppliers continues to meet or exceed the legislative requirements of the jurisdictions in which they are located.

Advent shall ensure that suppliers and staff are sufficiently trained and educated to apply this policy in their daily work.

PROCEDURE
Advent Print Management’s environmental objectives & targets are reviewed at least annually and monitored and measured where practical to ensure we achieve our environmental goals.

Principle 1: Environmental risk management
We seek to consider environmental risks in all our business. A failure to properly identify, manage or control environmental risks can lead to financial losses and damage our reputation. These risks are monitored continually.

We seek to avoid relationships if there are material environmental risks that cannot be properly assessed or where, in the judgment of Advent, the counterparty is not addressing environmental issues in an appropriate and responsible manner.

Principle 2: Environmental market opportunities
We also seek to pursue opportunities in the print market for environmentally friendly products and services. We offer a variety of these services to our environmentally and socially engaged customer base.

Principle 3: In-house ecology
We are committed to providing an environmentally safe work place to our staff, and to actively seeking ways to reduce our direct environmental impact on air, soil and water from in-house operations. The major areas where Advent has a direct impact are, in order of importance, energy consumption, business travel, paper consumption, and waste.

We will seek to assess the environmental impact of our suppliers’ products and services, and to engage with them whenever necessary to limit environmental risks.

All waste materials of paper base and plastics used within APM are sorted and disposed of by recycling where possible.

Recyclable cartons used in packaging and cartons are re-used if possible. Non-usable cartons are packed for recycling.

Toner cartridges and film are sent to recycling companies. ie: ALC or Officeworks.

A planned extension to our warehouse in Parkhurst Drive will include environmentally friendly, water recycling tanks. This will enable Advent to utilize rain water run off for use within the building.

Principle 4: Environmental management system
We ensure efficient implementation of our policy through our management system which adheres to the relevant environmental regulations, for achieving self-defined environmental objectives, and for maintaining continuous improvement of environmental performance. The management system is structured in a management cycle consisting of planning, implementation, controlling and management review including corrective actions.

Principle 5: Training and communication
Environmental awareness and expertise play an important role in implementing our goals. We therefore invest in know-how and integrate environmental considerations into internal communications and training.

The primary responsibility for implementing the Environmental Policy lies within the our management group. The Group functions ensure a comprehensive and consistent approach to environmental management across Advent.

Principle 6 – Supplier Management
External manufacturers are monitored for the Clean Environment Policies by questionnaire which covers the following points of environment friendly procedures.

  • Inks use (vegetable etc)
  • Solvents (biodegradable)
  • Disposal of chemicals
  • Paper Waste
  • Waste Water
  • Chemical Storage
  • Forklift type – electric/gas/petrol
  • Shrink wrapping
  • Cartons (recyclable)
  • Printing Plates
  • Film disposal

Preference is given to companies that show a clear understanding and application of Clean Environment Policy. Should any breach be noted we initiate a ‘Non-Conformance Report’ as outlined in QS10.2 of our Quality Assurance procedure manual.

Advent Print Management is not only focused on the most cost effective option when selecting suppliers, but also the potential environmental impact of each supplier’s choice in raw materials. We encourage use of renewable vegetable based inks in the printing process rather than traditional printing inks made with petroleum oil that contribute to growing greenhouse gas emissions. Wherever possible we encourage suppliers to purchase paper alternatives that have post-consumer recycled content, are processed chlorine free and have an environmental management system accreditation. And we encourage our clients to choose sustainable paper alternatives wherever available.

We expect suppliers to have waste management systems in place in all manufacturing operations. The most common waste stream and treatment are:

  • Paper – recycled
  • Plates – recycled
  • Ink cartridges – recycled
  • Waste solvents and wash-up rags – compliant EPA (or other authority) disposal
  • Water – trade waste with relevant authority consents
  • Plate processing chemistry – in-line recycling units and then – compliant EPA(or other authority) disposal.

Any customer product to be destroyed and recycled is to be confirmed to APM in writing that destruction is to take place and APM, if requested, will supply a written confirmation that the destruction and recycling has been done in an environmentaly friendly and secure manner.
